Two perish,two others injured in Masaka City motor crash

MASAKA. Two people died on spot and two others were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition after a tricycle commonly known as tuk tuk collided with a Tanzanian bond trailer.


The traffic crash that happened near Masaka police barracks at new Kkumbu Village along Masaka -Kyotera –Mutukula highway occurred at about 80;30pm, on Monday night, when a speeding tricycle rider collided with a trailer, killing two people on spot and two others injured.


According to eye witnesses , the rider of the tuk tuk registration number UGG 746H which was coming from Masaka City side to Kyotera, switched his lane when he was trying to cross the highway and rammed into the trailer registration number T998 ECW / T 1994 EZD L that was coming the opposite direction .


“The road is under construction ,but the riders are always speeding even when they don’t have clear visibility of what is coming from either sides of the road, riders should stop this recklessness because they risk losing their lives in such incidents” Kato Mukasa ,one of the eye witnesses said.


Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Twaha Kasirye said police are yet to identify two victims who were traveling on the tricycle because they did not have identification documents.


He however said those injured including Eric Lubega and another person who is believed to be the driver of the trailer is yet to be identified were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital .

“Investigations into that crash have kicked off, we ask road users to always be cautious because such crashes can be avoided if the drivers are cautious about the way they use the roads” he said
