A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer, a police officer and five civilians have been convicted for the 2018 murder of a Rukungiri businessman; Goddie Anobushoborozi over a debt that went bad .

Justice Alex Ajiji has this afternoon found Capt. Moses Akiba , a police officer D/Cpl Lawrence Monday and five others guilty of forming a common intention to commit murder.

However the court has acquitted a one Magezi Nicholas after the court has been satiafied that he was in police custody during the time of the said murder .

The High Court sitting at Kampala has heard that on December 8, 2018, Ainobushoborozi was lured out at night after being promised payment of 70 million shillings, money allegedly owed to him by a one Muheki after earlier attempts to be laid had failed.

Prosecution represented by Irene Nakimbugwe has proved that on the night of the murder, Ainobushoborozi left his home accompanied by a Mugumya Jude riding on a motorcycle along the Rukungiri–Buhunga road but they encountered masked men who had mounted a roadblock using stones and logs along the way .

According to Mugumya, who testified as a key prosecution witness, the attackers were armed, and one carried a rifle. As chaos erupted, Mugumya fled on the motorcycle leaving Ainobushoborozi fighting the assailants who later shot him dead.

Police investigators recovered two spent cartridges and phones at the scene and later transported the victim’s body to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary.

The court has also considered as truthful Ainobushoborozi’s dying moments and declarations when he implicated one of his killers in his words as ” Hajji you have killed me “.

Justice Ajiji has said the dying declaration corroborated by Mugumya’s testimony and the testimony of a witch doctor who allegedly ” tied the case ” placed several of the accused at the scene and described their specific roles during the attack.

The court will pass its sentence against the 7 convcits tomorrow.
