The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) has embarked on a transformative journey, rebranding with a renewed vision to uplift professional standards in the financial sector.
Under its new mantra “Learn. Transform. Lead.”, the institute is not only redefining its identity but also charting an ambitious path to professionalize every banker in Uganda.
At the heart of this rebrand is a proposal to introduce legislation, The Uganda Institute of Banking & Financial Services Bill that would require all banking professionals in the country to be certified by the Institute.
This move is intended to align the sector with global best practices while enhancing competency and trust in Uganda’s banking industry.
“This is more than just a cosmetic facelift. It’s a strategic transformation,” said Goretti Masadde, CEO of UIBFS. “In a world of digital disruption, shifting regulations, and increasing consumer expectations, being qualified is no longer enough. One must be transformed and ready to lead.” She added.
Masadde emphasized that the rebrand is anchored on a simple but powerful promise,Learn through innovative, flexible, and market-relevant training programs, Transform by instilling forward-thinking skills and mindsets, Lead at every level in institutions, communities, and across the financial system.
The institute’s origins date back to 1967 when it served as an examination centre for the Chartered Institute of Banking in the UK. It gained autonomy in 1990 and has since played a central role in Uganda’s financial education landscape.
Today, it aims to reaffirm that role by becoming the country’s leading driver of banking excellence and professional inclusion.
“This rebrand is not about new logos or events. It will reflect in the depth of our courses, the relevance of our curriculum, and the impact of our research and consultancy work,” Masadde added.
UIBFS is positioning itself as a cornerstone for proactive career development and leadership in the financial sector. With the proposed legislation and the bold challenge, it presents to banking professionals, the institute leaves no doubt about its mission toshape not just careers but the future of banking in Uganda.
