Uganda Cranes bus involved in accident ahead of CHAN games 

KAMPALA.

A bus belonging to Uganda Cranes football team has been involved in a fatal road crash along the Northern Bypass near the Kisasi Flyover in Kampala.
The accident left a motorcyclist dead .


According to a statement released by the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the accident occurred at approximately 3:00 PM on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
The bus, a CAF-branded orange King Long vehicle with registration number UA 19059AA, was reportedly trying to swerve and avoid a collision with an oncoming trailer when it struck a boda boda , registration UFB 122F.


The boda boda rider, who had not been identified by press time, died on the spot. His body was transferred to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination.
Police identified the driver of the Uganda Cranes bus as Khalid Ahmed. Both vehicles involved in the crash have been impounded and taken to Kira Road Police Station pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).


The incident comes as Uganda prepares to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 starting on August 2.
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Authorities have reiterated their call for improved vigilance and defensive driving, especially on high-speed routes like the Northern Bypass, which has seen an increase in traffic accidents in recent years.
