
KAMPALA. The Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) has Friday morning resumed passenger train services between Mukono and Kampala City .
On Thursday morning , a total of 303 passengers survived death after a train and a bus crashed head-on at Namumira Village on the Katosi Road in Mukono District ,forcing the management of URC to temporarily suspend daily passenger train services .
The crash between a Trinity Express Ltd bus, registration number RAH 629B, and a Uganda Railway passenger train (73U32) paralyzed traffic after the road was blocked by the locomotives.The bus, driven by Eliud Kuria, was travelling from Nairobi to Kampala and failed to stop at the railway crossing at around 6:45am, colliding with the train operated by Henry Munyarurembo. The rear part of the bus was damaged.
Luckily , no one was injured or killed in the crash .
In a statement on Thursday evening , URC said its passenger train services had resumed .
“We are back on track, the passenger train service is back as scheduled,” the statement reads in part .

However , URC management has warned motorists to approach level crossings with caution.
In December 2024, President Museveni commissioned the concrete sleeper railway line in Mukono, signaling renewed commitment to rail transport.
Since its relaunch in June 2024, more than 220,000 passengers have used the Kampala–Mukono commuter train. URC also has plans to rehabilitate additional routes to Kyengera, Port Bell, and Lugazi.
