Uganda to Highlight Trade, Culture and Partnerships at Expo 2025 Osaka National Day

Uganda will this week mark its National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan, with a showcase that blends trade promotion, cultural heritage, and diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening ties with international partners.

The event, set for Wednesday, October 8, will be graced by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who is leading Uganda’s official delegation to the global exhibition. The Expo, themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” has attracted participation from more than 150 countries since it opened in April.

At the heart of Uganda’s participation is a push to boost trade and investment. Officials say the country will use the platform to attract Japanese investors in sectors such as Agro-processing, renewable energy, manufacturing, and tourism.

The Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority (UFZEPA), which is coordinating the country’s presence at the Expo, says the exhibition offers a strategic opportunity to position Uganda as a competitive investment destination in East Africa.

“Uganda’s participation reflects our commitment to open new frontiers for trade and investment through partnerships that foster sustainable growth,” said a UFZEPA official ahead of the event.

In June this year, Uganda and Japan signed a Memorandum of Understanding between UFZEPA and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry to strengthen business cooperation. The two sides are expected to hold follow-up meetings in Osaka this week to explore further investment opportunities.

Beyond trade, Uganda’s National Day will also celebrate the country’s rich cultural diversity through performances, art, and fashion. The cultural showcase aims to highlight Uganda’s creative industry and promote tourism to the “Pearl of Africa.”

The Ugandan pavilion, located in the Commons A zone, carries the sub-theme “Empowering Lives.” It integrates messages of innovation, inclusivity, and transformation values that align with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and development agenda.

Cultural troupes from Uganda are expected to perform at the Expo’s main stage, offering visitors a vibrant experience of Ugandan dance, music, and storytelling.

Following the celebrations, Prime Minister Nabbanja will hold bilateral talks with Japan’s Prime Minister in Tokyo on October 9. According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions will focus on expanding cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and technology.
