Ugandan High Commissioner to India Leads Tourism Delegation to Uganda

A delegation of prominent Indian tour agents is set to visit Uganda from May 29th to June 7th, 2025, led by H.E. Prof. Joyce Kakuramatsi Kikafunda, Uganda’s High Commissioner to India. This familiarization (FAM) trip aims to promote Uganda’s tourism industry and leverage its potential for economic growth.

Tourism Growth Initiatives

The High Commission has been actively promoting Uganda’s tourism sector in India, including participating in major travel events like the Outbound Travel Market (OTM) in Mumbai and the South Asia Travel & Tourism Exchange (SATTE) in New Delhi. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to increase Uganda’s economy from $50 billion to $500 billion by 2040.

India’s Growing Travel Market

India’s travel market is experiencing rapid growth, with projections indicating 19.4 million leisure departures and $410 billion spent on global travel by 2030. This FAM trip provides an opportunity for Indian tour operators to explore Uganda’s tourism potential and forge partnerships.

Economic Potential

By showcasing Uganda’s attractions and hospitality, the High Commission aims to tap into India’s growing travel market and contribute to Uganda’s economic development. The visit is expected to foster collaboration and investment in the tourism sector, ultimately benefiting both countries.
