UMSC deliberates on annual work plan 2026

KAMPALA.

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) National Management Committee met for three consecutive days, from December 29 to 31, to deliberate on several draft annual work plans submitted by various departments.

The meeting was initially chaired by His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda, and was later presided over by Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the Second Deputy Mufti.

Proceedings commenced with a presentation from the Department of Education, represented by its head, Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu. He presented a detailed and progressive report before tabling a 16-page work plan covering several key areas.

These included the management of primary schools at national, regional, and district levels; secondary school development at similar levels; infrastructure development aimed at improving the learning environment; enhancement of WASH facilities; rehabilitation of existing structures; and effective supervision of ongoing construction projects.

Other priority areas highlighted in the work plan were education fund mobilisation; enhancement of Islamic moral values among learners; school inspections; teacher training, employment, and capacity building; monitoring and evaluation; sports and games; the annual head teachers’ conference; Islamic examinations; registration of new Muslim schools; solicitation and awarding of scholarships; meetings and travel; repairs and maintenance of computers and vehicles; and cooperation with government and non-governmental organisations.

Deliberations on the work plan were postponed to the first week of January 2026.
