UMSC mourns demise of Sheikh Twaha Tamale

KAMPALA. His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda, on his own behalf and on behalf of the entire UMSC fraternity, mourns the passing of Sheikh Twaha Tamale, a resident of Kazo on the outskirts of Kampala.

Sheikh Tamale was a member of Majlis Al Ulaam—the council of eminent sheikhs mandated by the UMSC constitution—and played a key role in appointing top Muslim leadership, including the Mufti.

Sheikh Tamale passed away due to cancer at the Cancer Institute, Mulago National Referral Hospital, early on and the morning of Saturday, November 29, 2025. He was a trained Muslim cleric, having studied in Saudi Arabia in the 1980s, and gained prominence after his appointment as the Kampala Muslim regional representative to the prestigious council of learned Islamic theologians.

The Mufti sent his condolences to Sheikh Tamale’s immediate family, describing his death as a significant loss to the Muslim community. In his message, he quoted the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), noting that the burial of an Islamic scholar is likened to the burial of Islamic knowledge. He expressed deep sorrow over the passing and prayed to Almighty Allah to receive Sheikh Tamale’s soul with divine grace and forgiveness.

The Mufti’s message concluded with special supplications, asking Allah to grant the bereaved family courage, patience, and unity during this difficult time.

All burial arrangements will be announced shortly after consultations with the deceased’s family.
