With heavy investments in a state-of-the-art new home, cutting-edge technology, research, and entrepreneurship, the private university is shaping an institution built for the next generation.
“As we chart this path, we hold onto one truth: “The future is never given; it is created by those bold enough to redesign it.” the chairperson board of directors Dr Sudhir Ruparelia ,said during the launch of the plan at Speak Resort Munyonyo in Kampala .
“The world is changing fast, and education must change faster. Talent should never wait in line behind tradition. Our job is to prepare graduates who excel because they have seen, done and solved — not just memorised.” Prof. Lawrence Muganga , the vice chancellor of the university ,said

Inside the strategic plan
What sets this new blueprint apart is its bold declaration that Victoria University will no longer conform to traditional education models; instead, it aims to redefine them. It positions VU as “the university of the future”, where learning is practical, tech-enabled, industry-shaped and driven by measurable competence.
A Vision to Transform Higher Education
Victoria University Secretary Mrs M. G. Katusabe-Ssemwezi described the plan as a transformative document that charts the next chapter of Victoria University’s evolution. She noted that the strategy seeks to place VU among the world’s most modern institutions by embracing innovation, accountability and a strong service culture.
Prof. Muganga, said the strategic plan was built around one central question: What future should Victoria University create?
The new 5-year strategic plan places technology and artificial intelligence at the centre of the university’s operations. Prof. Muganga emphasized that technology at VU will serve as a tool that enhances human expertise, not replaces it. He said students will be trained to use digital tools responsibly and creatively, while lecturers will prioritise ethics, critical thinking, and impactful teaching.
Muganga described classrooms of the future as spaces where learning is immersive, data-informed, interactive and industry-aligned, reflecting the university’s vision of preparing graduates for an economy shaped by digital transformation.
A University Built on Practical Experience, Work-Integrated Learning
The plan outlines Victoria University’s commitment to practical education at scale, ensuring that every programme integrates real work experience, hands-on projects, field-based learning and problem-solving assignments.
Prof. Muganga reaffirmed VU’s belief that academic excellence must go hand-in-hand with employability. The institution intends to expand Work-Integrated Learning opportunities through stronger collaborations with employers, innovators, government, private sector organisations and civil society.
One of the most ambitious components of the plan is the development of a new mega campus on prime land allocated by Dr Sudhir Ruparelia. The campus will host thousands of students and serve as a modern hub for technology, innovation, digital learning, experiential labs and global partnerships.
Muganga said the new campus will symbolize the university’s rising influence and its ambition to become Africa’s leading international institution.
Research With Purpose and National Relevance
The plan also prioritises research that directly addresses community needs and national development challenges. VU aims to strengthen partnerships that produce actionable knowledge — research that improves livelihoods, boosts productivity and supports Uganda’s economic transformation agenda.
Prof. Muganga reaffirmed the university’s promise that a Victoria University graduate will be one who can think clearly, work effectively and solve problems confidently. He assured students that they will graduate with visible evidence of competence, and assured employers that the new curriculum model is intentionally designed to produce job-ready, ethical and innovative professionals.
“To our country,” he said, “we pledge graduates who are problem-solvers, nation builders and contributors to society’s well-being.”
Lighting the Path to 2030
The launch of the Strategic Plan marks the beginning of a bold new era. Victoria University now positions itself as a pioneering institution ready to challenge outdated norms and champion a model of higher education built on agility, technology, practicality and global readiness.
Prof. Muganga concluded with a rallying message that captured the spirit of the evening: “Tonight we light the path to 2030 with a plan that keeps us unconventional, keeps us human, and keeps us ahead. The future is here, and we are building it.”
