Bobi Wine says he escaped from his posh home in Magere on the outskirts of Kampala City, on January 16 following a night military raid. Since then his whereabouts are not known though he sometimes posts on his X ,giving updates on the developments at his home and the country at large .

He claims he had gotten wind of a plot by security to arrest him following the election, whose results he rejected.

“We still have a presence around the home of Hon. Kyagulanyi, and we are doing so for security reasons, in the interest of the security of the country,” Rusoke stated.

The police statement comes amid widespread public speculation about Kyagulanyi’s whereabouts, with some reports suggesting that the opposition leader is not currently at his residence.

Authorities have, however, not disclosed whether he is being sought by law enforcement or detailed the specific security concerns prompting the continued deployment.

Supporters of Kyagulanyi and members of the opposition have expressed concerns over the heavy security presence, describing it as a form of intimidation.
