Wendi, the mobile wallet developed by Pearl Bank Uganda, has partnered with TotalEnergies Marketing Uganda to make payments at fuel stations faster, safer, and entirely cashless.
The partnership will allow customers to pay for fuel, cooking gas, car servicing, and convenience store purchases at TotalEnergies outlets across the country using the Wendi mobile wallet or the USSD code *229#.
According to officials from both institutions, the collaboration is aimed at promoting convenience for customers while advancing Uganda’s digital payment ecosystem. Transactions will range from as low as UGX 500 to a maximum of UGX 5 million per purchase, with each Wendi wallet holding up to UGX 20 million. Merchant wallets, such as those operated by TotalEnergies stations, will have no upper limit.
Peter Ssenyange, Chief Financial Officer at Pearl Bank Uganda, described Wendi as a home-grown solution built to simplify everyday financial transactions. He noted that the wallet offers secure and affordable services, while also encouraging a savings culture through its 10% annual interest on balances.
“This partnership with TotalEnergies will make it easier for Ugandans to transact digitally wherever they are,” Ssenyange said, adding that customers can register instantly using their National Identification Number through the app or USSD platform.
Representing the Managing Director of TotalEnergies Uganda, Finance Manager Joseph Wechuli said the company is embracing innovation to improve customer experience.
“Our goal is to make every transaction seamless and convenient. By accepting digital payments through Wendi, we are reducing the need for cash handling while providing our clients with more flexible payment options,” Wechuli said.
The integration of Wendi payments at TotalEnergies service stations is already underway and is expected to be completed by the end of November 2025. Once fully rolled out, customers will be able to enjoy instant, secure, and cashless transactions at all participating stations nationwide.
