Worry as Journalist disappears in Kampala after radio show

Kampala based TV journalist Mr Arnold Anthony Musoke, attached to DigiTalk Media, is reported to have been abducted by unidentified plain-clothed men after a radio show on the Court’s nullification of sections of the Computer Misuse Act.

The Sunday abduction is said to have happened at around 1pm just outside the main gate of Metro FM 90.8 along Martin Road in Old Kampala, Kampala Central.

Eyewitnesses said they saw unidentified men force Mukose into a waiting grey Toyota Noah and drive off. It followed his talk show on the Constitutional Court’s recent decision to nullify key provisions of the act for violating rights and procedures.

The Uganda Journalists Association condemned it as an unlawful abduction, demanding his release amid concerns over press freedom.

“As the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA), we strongly condemn this unlawful abduction. Such actions are a direct attack on press freedom, freedom of expression, and the safety of journalists carrying out their professional duties,” the association leadership said in a statement.

UJA urged authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure that the rights and safety of all journalists are protected at all times.

“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Musoke Arnold Anthony.

Furthermore, we call upon all relevant security agencies to urgently clarify the circumstances surrounding his abduction.

Eyewitnesses report that the individuals involved identified themselves as security officers, which raises serious concerns that must be addressed without delay,” added the UJA statement.

Mr Mukose has in the past hosted jailed veteran opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye and other politicians on Digitalk Media’s Saturday’s talkshows.
