Eurogold, Mubende Miners Forge Alliance to Refine Uganda’s Gold and Empower Communities

A new partnership between Eurogold and the Mubende United Artisanal Miners Association (MUAM) is set to redefine Uganda’s gold industry, combining modern refining technology with community based mining to boost value addition and advance the country’s long term development vision.

The agreement, signed in Kampala earlier this week, formalises a collaboration aimed at transforming how gold mined by artisanal miners in Mubende District is processed and traded. Under the deal, Eurogold will purchase and refine the gold locally to international purity standards, ensuring that more value remains within Uganda’s economy.

Speaking at the signing, Eurogold Director Bernard Feni said the partnership signals a new chapter for Uganda’s mineral sector one that focuses on transparency, fair trade and shared growth.

“This partnership is more than business, it is about empowering Ugandan miners to benefit fully from their hard work and ensuring our gold meets the highest global standards,” he said.

The Mubende miners, who have long operated on a small scale with limited market access, welcomed the collaboration as an opportunity to formalise their work and gain stable income through fair pricing. The arrangement will also include training on responsible mining, safety standards and environmental protection.

Mubende United Artisanal Miners chairperson, in remarks at the event, said the partnership gives miners a genuine chance to move from survival level mining to sustainable livelihoods.

By refining gold domestically, Uganda expects to retain a greater share of export earnings and reduce reliance on raw mineral exports a key objective under Vision 2040, the national blueprint for industrialisation and inclusive growth.

Officials at the launch described the deal as an example of how partnerships between private investors and artisanal miners can drive responsible mining, improve traceability and build public trust in the sector. It is also expected to position Uganda as a competitive player in the regional gold value chain.

The collaboration forms part of a wider national effort to modernise the mining industry by linking community miners to formal markets, promoting ethical sourcing and ensuring minerals contribute directly to social and economic transformation
