Sheila Nduhukire Steers New Era of Medical Driven Service as Rotary Medical Stars Club Takes Root

A new chapter of organised humanitarian service unfolded on Saturday as the Rotary Club of Medical Stars was officially chartered, with National Medical Stores (NMS) Principal Public Relations Officer, Sheila Nduhukire appointed the club’s pioneer  and Charter  President.

The colourful charter ceremony, held at Speke Resort Munyonyo, marked a milestone for both Uganda’s Rotary community and NMS, as the club becomes one of the few institutional Rotary clubs in the region anchored within a parastatal body. The model is intended to harness employee volunteerism to deliver structured community service, particularly in public health.

Speaking shortly after her induction, Nduhukire described the moment as a call to serve beyond the office.

“Rotary gives us a platform to convert service intentions into action. As medical professionals, communicators, logisticians and public servants, we now have a collective mandate to impact lives with purpose,” she said.

The Rotary Club of Medical Stars draws its membership primarily from NMS staff and partners, creating a blend of technical expertise and community goodwill. Though newly chartered, the club has already tested the ground, partnering with fellow Rotary and Rotaract clubs to run community medical outreach camps.

Rotary leaders present at the ceremony hailed the corporate club model as timely, particularly at a moment when public institutions are being encouraged to adopt deeper community engagement strategies.

By embedding a Rotary chapter within NMS, officials say the agency is positioning itself not just as a key player in the national medicines supply chain, but also as a driver of community health impact through volunteerism, public awareness and targeted medical services.
