Hope as govt announces over 6800 job vacancies

KAMPALA.The Ministry of Public Service, has approved the recruitment of at least 6,853 public servants in the current financial year 2025/26.

They will be sent to 130 government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), including Local governments at a wage bill of Shs124.8 billion.

Others cleared for recruitment include workers in five newly constructed health Centre IIIs to health Centre IIIs and seven upgraded health Centre IIs to IIIs at a wage bill of Shs5.48 billion.

The newly constructed health Centre IIIs include Arocha HC III in Apac Municipality, Nsawo HC III in Kiira Municipal Council, Kibiri HC III in Makindye Sabagabo, Nyagilia Health Centre III in Koboko Municipal Council and Mwongyera HC III in Rubirizi District all with a wage bill of shs360m each.

Those upgraded include Kyondo Health Centre II in Kasese District, Kabingo Health Centre II in Kasese, Butungana Health Centre III in Ntoroko, all with a wage bill of Shs360m each

Others include Patongo HC IV in Agago District, Kira HC IV in Kira Municipality, Nyabirongo HC III in Kasese District and Wera HC III in Amuria District, all with a wage bill of shs650 each.

According to the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Service, Ms Catherine Bitarakwate, recruitment within these health centres will be done using the current structures.

“Filling those structures is being done in a phased manner because where there is super specialisation, we do not have very many human resources of that nature in the country and it is being done in a phased manner,” she said.

The Minister of Public Service Mr Wilson Muruli Mukasa, told journalists in Kampala that priority for recruitment was given to heads of department, especially in local government.
“This is to strengthen the development and implementation of government policies and effectively supervise and monitor government programs,” he said
Other recruitment priorities were given to strengthen staffing levels in Primary Schools, Primary Health Care, Agriculture Extension and Parish Chiefs/ Town Agents.
The Minister further revealed that 29 entities with additional wages did not submit their priority positions for clearance to recruit.
They include Mulago National Referral Hospital with Shs294m available for recruitment, Hoima Regional Referral Hospital that was allocated Shs401m, Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital allocated Shs522m, Moroto Regional Referral Hospital allocated Shs188m, and Mityana Municipal Council allocated Shs254m.
Others include Buyende District (Shs192), Karenga District (Shs277m), Kitagwenda District (Shs166m), Mpigi District (Shs165), Obongi District (Shs52m) and Rukiga District (Shs468m).
