MITYANA.Police in Mityana District have launched investigations into Thursday early morning motor crash that left two schoolchildren and a motorcycle rider critically injured along the Mubende–Kampala highway.
The crash occurred at around 6:30 a.m. near Kagavu on the outskirts of Mityana Town involving a white Toyota Premio, registration number UBA 363T, and an unidentified motorcycle carrying two passengers.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the car driver was attempting to overtake recklessly when the collision happened.
The injured victims have been identified as Nansubuga Ritah (10), a pupil at Kyankowe Day and Boarding Primary School, and Bambi Anita (6), a pupil at St. John Paul Nursery and Primary School in Kagavu both residents of Nakitooro Village, Ttamu Division, Mityana District. The unidentified boda boda rider sustained severe injuries and remains in critical condition.
Police officers led by Head Constable Major Wathum Abubaker from Mityana Central Police Station responded swiftly, rescuing the victims and transporting them to Mityana General Hospital for emergency treatment.
“Our traffic response team arrived promptly and managed to evacuate the victims to Mityana Hospital for medical care. The driver has been arrested, and the vehicle impounded as investigations continue,” said SSP Lameck Kigozi, Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson.
Kigozi attributed the crash to reckless driving, noting that investigations are ongoing to establish all details. He also revealed that the motorcycle involved was removed from the scene before police arrived, hindering their investigation.
“We caution boda boda riders who rush to take away motorcycles from accident scenes to stop this practice. It obstructs investigations and delays justice for victims,” he warned.
Residents of Kagavu have raised concerns over the increasing number of accidents along the Mubende–Kampala highway and urged authorities to strengthen road safety enforcement.
Police have assured the public that the driver will face appropriate charges once investigations are complete, while the injured continue to receive treatment at Mityana Hospital.
