KIGALI. Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Sunday met Rwandan President Paul Kagame for talks focused on bilateral cooperation, “regional peace, security and stability”.
The powerful First Son later toured and benchmarked some of Kigali’s flagship infrastructure projects.
According to Rwanda’s Presidency, Kagame received Muhoozi at Urugwiro Village, where the two discussed the strong ties between Rwanda and Uganda and ways to deepen cooperation on regional peace and security.
Later, Muhoozi toured the King Faisal Hospital Expansion Project, one of Rwanda’s flagship health infrastructure investments.
The project will double the hospital’s capacity from 200 to 400 beds and includes a modern intensive care unit, VVIP wings and a helipad
The expansion is being implemented by Shelter Group Africa, a construction company behind several of Rwanda’s landmark commercial and residential developments.
The Ugandan military chief also visited Nyandungu Eco Park, one of Kigali’s premier ecological recreation sites, before touring Parklane Estate, a luxury residential development in the Gacuriro neighbourhood, also developed by Shelter Group Africa.
Muhoozi was accompanied on the infrastructure tour by Kigali City Mayor Sam Dusengiyumva, who briefed him on the projects and the city’s urban development plans.
The visit comes as relations between Uganda and Rwanda continue to improve following years of diplomatic tensions, with both governments increasingly emphasising cooperation in trade, infrastructure, security and regional integration.
