The Government of Uganda has allocated 20 hectares of land to Spiro Uganda in a move aimed at strengthening regional production of electric vehicles and positioning the country as a manufacturing hub.

The development was disclosed by Eng. Kenneth Kaijuka, Chief Executive Officer of Housing Finance Bank, during a tour assessing the company’s progress over its 18 months of operations in Uganda.

According to Eng. Kaijuka, President Yoweri Museveni directed Housing Finance Bank to support the investors in establishing a certified manufacturing facility capable of serving the wider regional market. The initiative is intended to make Uganda a leading production center for electric motorcycles in East Africa.

He noted that the bank has secured land in Bukerere, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, where construction of a modern, standards-compliant manufacturing plant is expected to take place. Housing Finance Bank will oversee the development of the facility as part of its support to the project.

Spiro Uganda’s Assistant Country Director, Bruce Muchunguzi, welcomed the allocation, stating that the expanded space will enable the company to scale production beyond electric motorcycles to include three-wheelers, taxis, and buses. He said the expansion will enhance Uganda’s capacity to participate competitively in the growing electric mobility market across the region.
