Stanbic Bank Uganda has donated Shs50 million to Bunyoro University to establish a maker space hub aimed at nurturing creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning among students.
The donation was handed over to the university’s steering committee chairman, Professor Samuel Kyamanywa. Mumba Kalifunfwa, the bank’s chief executive officer, said the initiative is part of the bank’s commitment to youth empowerment, job creation, digital skills development, and STEM capacity building.
“To support this initiative, we are pleased to hand over a cheque worth Shs50 million. This contribution aligns with our five strategic pillars: infrastructure development, financial inclusion, job creation, climate resilience, and corporate philanthropy,” Kalifunfwa said.
He added that the maker space will help students transition from classroom learning to real-world applications, while fostering financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills.
Professor Kyamanywa commended the bank’s support, noting that Bunyoro University aims to be a science-led institution.
He said eighteen academic programs have already been designed, and construction at the main campus in Buhimba Town Council, Kikuube District, will begin shortly.
Godwin Angalia added that the district has opened all access roads to the university, ensuring smooth transportation of construction materials as the project commences.
