MITYANA. Police in Mityana District are investigating circumstances under which two men reportedly suffocated t death while repairing a water pump inside a deep underground well, commonly known as Shadoof in Bifuma Village , Kakindu Sub –Country .
According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 16,2026, at around 1pm at the home of Mohammed Bamulanzeeki .The deceased are Rogers Brown and a man only identified as Rasta.
Police preliminary investigations reveal that Rasta first descended into the well to repair the pump, but developed breathing difficulties, reportedly due t insufficient oxygen . Brown followed him into the well in an attempt to rescue him, but he also got suffocated and died .
The two men had not been presented to local authorities for profiling. We appeal t people
Wamala Regional lice spokesperson Lameck Kigozi said the incident was reported to Kakindu police Station by village chairperson James Ssemango, which prompted police to go to the scene.
“Kakindu police was reinforced by officers from Mityana lice and the Wamala Region Fire and Rescue Services team commanded by AIP Sabala Tonny. The emergency team assessed the situation before retrieving the bodies from the well,” he said
After the retrieval, Kigozi said the bodies were later conveyed t Mityana General Hospital for postmortem examination as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths go on.
