

The Police at Katwe Division in Kampala Monday successfully foiled an aggravated robbery attempt and arrested three suspects, including two security guards, following an operation at Nesta Petrol Station along Salaama Road in Salaama Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District, on April 27, 2026, at about 9:00am.
According to SP Rachael Kawala, the Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), officers acted on credible intelligence indicating a planned robbery at the fuel station.
She said a tactical team was swiftly deployed to the scene, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of four pangas, which are believed to have been intended for use in the execution of the crime.
The suspects have been identified as Muleke Martin, a 31-year-old security guard attached to Nesta Petrol Station; Okemeru Steven, 27; and Maka Daniel, a 23-year-old security guard also deployed at the same petrol station along Salaama Road.
Police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. Further details will be communicated in due course.
Kampala and its surrounding areas have continued to register a number of robbery incidents, prompting heightened police vigilance and sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing such crimes and enhancing public safety within the city.
According to the Police Crime Annual Report of 2025, a total of 7,863 robbery cases were reported in 2025, compared to 8,163 cases in 2024. The report indicates that 1,317 cases involved no lethal weapons, while 6,546 were aggravated robberies involving weapons such as firearms, knives, hammers, and machetes.
It further shows that aggravated robbery cases increased to 2,101 in 2025, up from 1,968 in 2024, representing a 6.7% rise. Robbery of cash also rose sharply, with 786 cases reported in 2025 compared to 573 in 2024, marking a 37.2% increase.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) recorded the highest number of robbery incidents in 2025. Within KMP, North Division led with 1,007 cases, followed by South Division with 779 cases and East Division with 669 cases. Outside Kampala, Rwizi registered 567 cases and North Kyoga 429 cases.
At the divisional level, Kawempe recorded the highest number of robberies with 289 cases, followed by Katwe (222), Jinja Road (212), Kira (186), Kabalagala (183), Kasangati (171), Old Kampala (167), and Mukono (157)
