‎KYENJOJO. Sheikh Yasin Magezi has officially taken oath as the Khadi of Kyenjojo Muslim District during a ceremony held at the main mosque in Kyenjojo Town Council on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

‎The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Sheikh Imran Abdunoor Ssali, who represented His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda, as the chief guest.

‎‎Muslim faithful, led by their area leaders, turned up in large numbers despite heavy afternoon rainfall that left many drenched. At exactly 1:00 p.m, Sheikh Yasin Magezi, flanked by his two wives, elderly mother — who is Christian — and other family members, raised a copy of the Holy Quran in his right hand and took two oaths of office administered by Musa Abduswamad, the UMSC Electoral Commission Regional Commissioner for Bunyoro-Toro. By taking the oaths, he formally committed himself to serving the Muslim community, marking the commencement of his official duties.

‎Thereafter, Sheikh Magezi was assisted into the official green robes of the Khadi and received instruments of authority, including copies of the UMSC Constitution and policy documents, among others.

‎‎The congregation also listened to speeches from several key leaders, including Mr Ausi Kagoro, the Kyenjojo Muslim District Chairperson, who shared the current state of affairs in the district. Kassimu Mugume, the district representative to the General Assembly, reminded the incoming Khadi that leadership in Islam requires voluntarism and self-sacrifice.

‎Sheikh Sharif Hassan, the Deputy Khadi , represented the outgoing Kadhi, Sheikh Muhammad Ssebi. Meanwhile, Sheikh Hussein Ghalib, the Regional Assistant to the Mufti in charge of the Bunyoro-Toro Muslim Region, under which Kyenjojo falls, urged the new Kadhi to work towards maintaining unity among the faithful. He also called upon him to remain steadfast to the teachings of Islam as prescribed in the Holy Quran, the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the UMSC Constitution while executing his duties.

‎‎In his maiden remarks, Sheikh Yasin Magezi left many in attendance astonished when he revealed that he was born into a staunch Christian family and only reverted to Islam in 2012. He narrated how he pursued Islamic theological studies, eventually attaining a Thanawi Advanced Certificate in Islamic Studies.

‎ ‎“You can reflect and see why some born Muslims neglect to study and understand their religion,” Sheikh Magezi said in Rutoro language with a smile.

‎‎He also quoted the famous speech of Saidina Abu Bakr, the close companion of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), upon succeeding the Prophet after his death, noting that although he was not the best among them, he sought the support of fellow believers in carrying out Allah’s work.

‎The event was crowned by Sheikh Imran Abdunoor Ssali, who read the Mufti’s three-page speech.

‎In the message, the Mufti guided the new Khadi on the principles of leadership anchored on unity and cooperation, justice and accountability, continuity and development initiated by his predecessors, community engagement, interreligious coordination, and close collaboration with government structures.

‎‎Turning to the faithful, Sheikh Ssali urged Muslims to accord unwavering support to the newly appointed Khadi , whom he described as having fulfilled all the necessary requirements for the office.

‎”It is ungodly to keep criticizing him whenever he goes wrong while refusing to support him,” Sheikh Ssali said.

‎‎He also urged Muslims to sacrifice whatever they have to educate their children and encouraged others to emulate the new Khadi , who embraced Islam and laboured to study Islamic theology.

‎‎“There are no more excuses. You can also go back and study your religion,” he advised.

‎‎Sheikh Ssali later declared the ceremony successful and officially handed over the appointment letter signed by the Mufti to Sheikh Yasin Magezi.
