The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Uganda, FAO Uganda
, is supporting the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries in the development of a national digital agriculture strategy aimed at transforming the country’s agricultural sector through technology and innovation.
According to FAO Uganda, a validation meeting was held on Thursday to discuss the key pillars of the strategy and review implementation plans ahead of its official rollout. The meeting brought together stakeholders from government, agriculture, technology, and development sectors to harmonize ideas on how digital solutions can improve agricultural productivity, market access, and extension services for farmers across the country.
FAO said the strategy is expected to strengthen Uganda’s agricultural systems by promoting the use of digital tools and innovation to address challenges affecting farmers, including access to information, climate-related risks, and limited connectivity between producers and markets.
The discussions focused on the cornerstones of the strategy, with stakeholders assessing how digital technologies can support data-driven decision-making, improve food security, and enhance service delivery within the agriculture sector.
The initiative aligns with Uganda’s broader efforts to modernize agriculture and harness technology to support sustainable development and economic growth.
FAO Uganda noted that the partnership with the Ministry is part of ongoing efforts to advance agricultural innovation and digital transformation in the country under the themes of #AgInnovation and #DigitalAgriculture.
