OMORO, Uganda – Several people are feared dead and many others injured following a devastating road crash involving an Opit Travellers bus and a lorry at Bobi Trading Centre in Omoro District along the Kampala–Gulu Highway.
The accident occurred on Tuesday evening when the bus, which was travelling from Kampala to Gulu City, collided with a lorry under circumstances that were still being investigated by press time.
Emergency responders, police officers and residents rushed to the scene to rescue trapped passengers and transport the injured to nearby health facilities. Rescue operations continued late into the evening as authorities worked to establish the number of casualties.
Preliminary reports indicate that the impact of the collision left the bus extensively damaged, with several passengers feared to have died on the spot. However, police had not yet released an official death toll or confirmed the number of injured victims by press time.

The crash caused significant disruption along the busy Kampala–Gulu Highway, with traffic temporarily affected as rescue teams cleared the wreckage from the road. Motorists were advised to exercise caution while approaching the area.
According to early reports, the bus was travelling northbound towards Gulu when it became involved in the collision at Bobi Trading Centre, a known busy trading centre along the highway. Authorities have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash. Initial reports suggest the collision involved an Opit Travellers bus and an oncoming trailer truck.
Family members and friends of passengers travelling aboard Opit Travellers buses were urged to contact their loved ones as concern mounted over the fate of those involved in the accident.

Road safety advocates have renewed calls for greater caution among motorists using the Kampala–Gulu Highway, one of Uganda’s busiest transport corridors, which has witnessed several fatal crashes in recent years.
Police said a comprehensive report on the incident, including confirmed casualty figures and the cause of the crash, would be released after investigations and rescue operations are completed.
More details will follow as information becomes available.
