OLD KAMPALA.His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, describing him as a distinguished statesman, patriot and steadfast supporter of the Muslim community whose contributions to Uganda will be remembered for generations.
In his condolence message issued on behalf of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) and the Muslim community in Uganda, the Mufti extended heartfelt condolences to Gen. Ali’s family, the people of Adjumani and the West Nile region, the Government of Uganda and all Ugandans mourning his death.
The Mufti said Gen. Moses Ali devoted his life to serving Uganda in both military and civilian leadership, playing a significant role in the country’s political development, peacebuilding efforts and national reconciliation, particularly in the West Nile region.
He also paid tribute to Gen. Ali’s invaluable contribution to the growth of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, noting that he was among the prominent Muslim leaders who played a pivotal role during the formation of the Council. The Mufti said Gen. Ali remained committed to strengthening Muslim institutions and advancing the welfare of the Muslim community throughout his public life.
According to the Mufti, Gen. Ali used his influence in government to lobby for support several landmark projects that continue to benefit Muslims across the country, including the establishment and growth of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) and the establishment of Kibuli Muslim Hospital. He described these initiatives as lasting legacies that have transformed education and healthcare for thousands of Ugandans.
”Gen. Moses Ali will be remembered not only as a national leader but also as a committed son of the Muslim community whose dedication to the development of Islamic institutions helped shape the future of generations of Ugandans,” the Mufti said.
The Mufti called upon Ugandans to honour Gen. Ali’s memory by promoting unity, peaceful coexistence and selfless service to the nation, values that he said the late General exemplified throughout his life.
Quoting the Holy Qur’an, the Mufti reminded the faithful that every soul shall taste death and prayed that Allah (SWT) forgives Gen. Moses Ali’s shortcomings, rewards him for his service to the nation and humanity, and grants him the highest ranks in Jannatul Firdaus.
He further prayed that Allah grants the bereaved family patience, courage and strength during this difficult period.
”Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return,” the Mufti said.
He directed the Secretary for Religious for Religious affairs to organize for him funeral prayers- Swalatul- Janaz to be held tomorrow at Gaddafi National Mosque. And has implored the Muslim faithful to turn up in big numbers to the send off the senior citizen on Sunday July 19th 2026.
