FORT PORTAL. Tooro Kingdom officials have released details of the burial programme for the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
According to the latest funeral programme , there will be a church service at St. John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal, followed by a procession to the Karambi royal burial grounds on Saturday .
Only four speeches will be delivered during the burial ceremony, according to the programme: one by Princess Ruth Komuntale, the Queen Mother, the Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi and President Museveni or his representative.
The body is scheduled to descend into Iziba, the royal burial place, at 2 p.m. prompt, marking the final stage of the burial ceremony.
The tightly structured programme limits formal tributes while placing emphasis on the traditional and religious rites surrounding the burial of the Tooro monarch.
The late King Oyo, who became Omukama of Tooro as a child in 1995, died after nearly three decades on the throne.
His death has triggered a period of mourning across the kingdom and renewed attention on the succession of the Tooro monarchy.
The Karambi Royal Burial Grounds hold particular significance for the kingdom, serving as the resting place of previous Tooro monarchs and members of the royal family.
Further details on the procession and traditional rites are expected to be communicated by the kingdom as preparations for the burial continue.
