Police in Kampala are investigating a fatal shooting at Freedom City along Entebbe Road in which a police officer shot and injured a woman and a private security guard before killing himself.
The officer, Saul Ayijuka died instantly.
The woman, identified as 23-year-old Akankunda Florence, sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh and was rushed to hospital, while the security guard is also receiving treatment. Police said the incident may have stemmed from a previous relationship between Ayijuka and Akankunda.
“Police responded, secured and documented the scene and recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and cartridges, which have been exhibited,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy public relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police. Ayijuka’s body was taken to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem as investigations continue.
