Tooro King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I is expected to appoint a new prime minister, assistant prime ministers and cabinet ministers .

There after , the new king will embark on a tour to meet his subjects across Uganda and abroad.

The planned activities form part of the roadmap for the newly enthroned king as he begins his reign, according to Omujwera Musuuga Charles Kamurasi, the head of the Babiito royal clan.

He said the appointments will establish a new kingdom administration to support the Omukama in implementing his programmes and overseeing the affairs of the institution.

“Very soon, the king will appoint and announce to the Supreme Council the next Omuhikirwa, the prime minister, assistant prime ministers and cabinet ministers, those we call here Amagatwa,” Mr Kamurasi said.

He added: “The kingdom supreme council will then be called to approve the new cabinet and after that, they will be sworn in,” he said on Saturday during an interview.

He added that establishing a government will enable the king to have officials responsible for helping him implement his plans for the people of Tooro.

Mr Kamurasi explained that the kingdom currently has only a king, adding that the previous prime minister and ministers’ term of office ends with the late King Oyo’s reign.

“This is the time to revive the glory of Tooro. The cabinet must work for Tooro. We expect our king to give us a competent prime minister and cabinet,” He said.

He added that after the cabinet has been fully instituted, the next major activity will be Kujengeza Omukama, a royal tour through which the king will visit his subjects in the kingdom’s nine counties and engage with Batooro living outside the kingdom.

He said the official tour would not be limited to the nine counties, but would also extend to Batooro living in other parts of Uganda and in the diaspora.

Mr Kamurasi said the tour can only organised after the appointment of the kingdom administration because the king is expected to travel with the prime minister, cabinet ministers, county chiefs and other kingdom officials.

Nyabongo I’s reign follows his coronation at Karuziika Palace on September 29, after the death of his predecessor, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, on August 27.

Oyo, who reigned for 31 years, was buried at the Karambi Royal Tombs on September 12, ending a reign that began in 1995.

Nyabongo I was selected by the Babiito royal clan and endorsed by the kingdom’s supreme council, becoming the 16th Omukama of Tooro.
