In a strategic move to accelerate digital inclusion in Uganda, Airtel Uganda has teamed up with MOGO Uganda and Transsion Holdings to unveil a pioneering smartphone financing program aimed at making smartphones more attainable for the average Ugandan.
This initiative targets the long-standing “device divide” – the affordability gap that limits millions from participating in the digital economy. Through the partnership, Ugandans will now have access to smartphones from leading brands including Tecno, Infinix, and Itel, through an easy, low-cost installment plan.

Customers can visit participating MOGO outlets or select Airtel service centers with a valid National ID, make a modest upfront payment, and walk away with a new smartphone within minutes. As part of the package, Airtel will provide 3GB of free data each month for three months, ensuring immediate digital engagement.
At the launch, Airtel Uganda’s Managing Director, Mr. Som Soumendra, described the initiative as a milestone in Airtel’s commitment to narrowing the digital gap. “Owning a smartphone isn’t a luxury – it’s a gateway to opportunity,” he stated. “We are proud to make this a reality for more Ugandans by combining affordable devices with strong and secure connectivity.”
This announcement comes on the heels of Airtel’s recent network expansion and the rollout of Uganda’s first AI-powered Spam Alert Service, which offers protection against fraud and digital threats.

Modestas Sudnius, CEO of Eleving Group, MOGO’s parent company, reaffirmed their dedication to digital and economic empowerment across Africa. “We’ve invested over €30 million in Uganda, and smartphone financing is the next step in our journey. By improving access to smart technology, we’re opening up pathways for education, commerce, and connection.”
The program is set to benefit over 360,000 people annually—supporting students, farmers, traders, and small business owners to fully participate in the digital economy.
