Am not in jail – Ssemakadde breaks silence

High Court Judge, Musa Ssekaana

A few days after High Court Judge, Musa Ssekaana has sentenced Uganda Law Society (ULS) President Isaac Ssemakadde to two years imprisonment as a result of contempt of Court.

Ssemakadde for the first time , has come out and assured everyone that he is a free person, not in jail as many had thought.

“To those asking whether I am in jail—No, I am not. I remain exactly where I have always been: on the frontlines of justice, challenging impunity, and defending freedom.

A judiciary that fears criticism more than injustice is a threat to democracy. I will not be silenced. The struggle for an independent, accountable, and fearless legal system continues. Uganda deserves better.” Stated Ssemakadde via his official social media accounts.

Ever since Friday last week, when Justice Ssekaana passed Ssemakadde’s sentence, the convict has been silent about his whereabouts since by the time of the judgement, he was not in court.

Various stakeholders have publicly criticized Ssemakadde’s character, well as others have been criticized the unconstitutional ruling which was delivered by the High court.
