Buganda Kingdom finally opens Mityana health unit to patients

Residents in Mityana District are hoping for improved health services after Buganda Kingdom finally opened its facility to patients in the area .


The facility named Kabaka Muteesa II , was first commissioned by the kingdom Katikkiro( premier ) ,Mr Charles Peter Mayiga on April 8,2025 as one of the activities to mark Kabaka Mutebi II’s 70th birthday .However, at that time patients could not get services as no equipment and recruitment had been done.
The facility at the level of Health Centre IV is among the three hospitals the kingdom has constructed in areas including Buddu(Masaka) and Kyaggwe( Buikwe ) .


A health centre IV is a mini hospital and serves a county or a parliamentary constituency .It is supposed to have a senior medical officer and another doctor as well as a theatre for carrying out emergency operations .The facility usually has wards for men , women ,and children and should be able to admit patients .


During the opening is the facility last week , the kingdom minister for health ,Ms Cotilda Nakate said the facility is now ready to offer medical services to patients with minor illnesses as they wait for shipment of medical equipment for the theater and laboratories


“In the meantime , those who need surgeries ,are referred to Mengo Hospital .There was a delay in the shipment of the equipment, but we are now sure that the consignment is on the way coming ” she said
She added that they have also already recruited 15 medical staff and six support staff .


The speaker of Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko( Parliament) ,Mr Patrick Mugumbule, who represented Katikkiro Mayiga ,said the facility is going to serve people in Mityana and the neighbouring districts .


“this is the gift you have received from Kabaka of Buganda , it is going to serve the people of Ssingo county and beyond, it has experienced staff and modern equipment are going to be installed ,” he said.
He said services at the Shs2.billion facility under Mengo Hospital management , are going to be at subsided rates compared to other private hospitals in the area .


The people of Ssingo welcomed the facility and thanked the Kabaka for caring about their wellbeing.
“Health services have remained expensive here,but with the coming of a facility owned by Buganda Kingdom , we are now sure that we will get services at affordable rates,” Susan Nakyeyune ,an expectant mother ,said
