KASESE.The Omusinga of Rwenzururu Kingdom, Charles Mumbere, has returned to Uganda after over a month overseas .
The king had travelled to Turkey for a medical review. His return signals that his subjects can now prepare to mark his birthday and 60th coronation anniversary.
The King arrived in the country at about 10pm on Saturday, November 7, barely a week before the Kingdom’s planned double celebration on November 14.
The 60th coronation anniversary, initially scheduled for October 19, was postponed to November 14 because of the King’s absence from the country.
Kingdom officials had maintained that the anniversary would not be commemorated in his absence, prompting the change of date to allow him to personally preside over the celebrations.
The November 14 event will therefore combine the Omusinga’s birthday celebrations with the belated commemoration of six decades since his installation as King.
Beyond the festivities, the Kingdom is also expected to use the occasion to launch a fundraising drive for the construction of a new royal palace, with the first phase estimated to cost approximately Shs5 billion.
Mumbere’s return is expected to give fresh impetus to preparations as the Kingdom looks forward to welcoming its cultural leader for the joint celebrations.
