Real Madrid Keep Pace with Barcelona After Victory Over Girona

Real Madrid secured a 2-0 win over Girona on Sunday, keeping them level on points with FC Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

Luka Modric opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a stunning volley, expertly controlling a clearance from a corner before firing home. Despite the absence of Jude Bellingham, Madrid remained dominant, with Brahim Diaz stepping in to create opportunities. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was also tested, making a crucial save to deny Arnaut Danjuma.

Vinicius Jr. sealed the victory late in the game, converting a pass from Kylian Mbappe, who had been frustrated throughout by Girona’s goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

Barcelona Grind Out Win, Atletico Impress in Valencia

Barcelona claimed a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Las Palmas on Saturday, courtesy of second-half goals from substitutes Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres. The Catalan side struggled to find their rhythm against a determined opponent but broke through when Olmo finished off a pass from Lamine Yamal just before the hour mark. Ferran then sealed the win in stoppage time, moments after Las Palmas had a penalty claim overturned by VAR.

Atletico Madrid delivered a commanding performance in their 3-0 triumph over Valencia. Julian Alvarez netted twice in the first half, while Angel Correa added a late third. Antoine Griezmann played a key role, providing two assists in a dominant display.

Athletic Bilbao Run Riot, Betis Edge Getafe

Alvaro Rubio’s return as Real Valladolid coach ended in a heavy 7-1 loss against Athletic Bilbao, who solidified their place in fourth.

Mikel Jauregizar broke the deadlock with a long-range strike before Nico Williams added a brilliant solo effort. Maroan Sannadi and Oihan Sancet extended the lead before halftime. Mamadou Sylla pulled one back for Valladolid early in the second half, but Bilbao responded with further goals from Nico Williams, Gorka Guruzeta, and Inaki Williams to complete the rout.

Meanwhile, Isco struck twice to guide Real Betis to a 2-1 away win at Getafe. The match ended on a sour note, with Antony receiving a red card for a reckless tackle in the dying minutes.

Villarreal, Espanyol, and Celta Vigo Secure Key Wins

Ayoze Perez’s 66th-minute goal secured a 1-0 victory for Villarreal over Rayo Vallecano, who were reduced to 10 men after Jorge de Frutos’ dismissal early in the match.

Espanyol climbed further from the relegation zone with a 1-0 win against Alaves, thanks to Fernando Calero’s 87th-minute header. Alaves continue to struggle, having won just once in their last 13 games.

On Friday, Celta Vigo edged past Osasuna with a 1-0 home win, courtesy of Iago Aspas’ well-taken penalty, boosting their hopes of European qualification.
