PDL Champions Safer Drinking Culture in Luweero with Grassroots Drive

Residents of Wobulenzi in Luweero District were last week treated to a mix of education and celebration as Premier Distilleries Limited (PDL) rolled out its campaign promoting responsible alcohol consumption.

The beverage company, known for products such as Simba Gin and Coffee-Flavored Vodka, used the occasion to sensitize communities about the dangers of illicit alcohol, while at the same time rewarding loyal customers under its “Bikole Masavu” initiative.

Speaking during the engagement at Wobulenzi Market, PDL officials warned of the long-term health risks associated with consuming unregulated alcohol. They encouraged residents to buy certified products as a safeguard against illness and economic loss that often arise from illicit brews.

Godfrey Serutta, the company’s Head of Sales, said the campaign was designed not only to mark PDL’s 25 years in Uganda but also to “create awareness about safer drinking habits at the grassroots level.”

The campaign, which directly involved traders, market vendors, and boda-boda riders, also featured customer appreciation activities. As part of the promotion, Emmanuel Okello, a barber from Bamunanuka sub-county, rode away with a brand-new Bajaj motorcycle after emerging as the first winner.

PDL revealed that more prizes, including smartphones, television sets, motorcycles, and a grand cash prize of Shs 50 million, are up for grabs for customers who purchase participating products and enter using a code found under the bottle caps.

Organizers said the initiative is both a celebration of PDL’s journey in Uganda and a call to action against the consumption of dangerous alcohol. “We want to celebrate with our customers while also protecting them from the risks of illicit brews,” Serutta noted.

The company pledged to continue engaging communities across the country with similar outreach programs, aiming to strike a balance between responsible enjoyment of its beverages and safeguarding public health.
