The Democratic Front (DF) party, led by Mathias Mpuuga, has declared its readiness to welcome politicians who have been sidelined by other political parties, including the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the National Unity Platform (NUP), ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the DF headquarters in Kampala, party chairman Lubega Mukaaku said the Democratic Front is committed to offering a transparent and inclusive platform to aspiring leaders who are willing to serve with integrity—without the pressure of financial contributions.
“We are open to all Ugandans who have been unfairly denied opportunities elsewhere. DF does not demand money from candidates. What we ask for is commitment, loyalty, and service to the nation,” Mukaaku said. “This is a movement built on values, and we are prepared to lead at every level.”
Mukaaku’s remarks follow growing unrest within NUP, where some members have expressed discontent over what they perceive as an unfair candidate selection process. Frustrated aspirants from both NUP and NRM have been urged to either contest as independents or seek new political homes.
With this internal fallout in other parties, Mukaaku said the Democratic Front stands to gain by attracting serious contenders with the potential to win seats in both local councils and national parliament.

“Our party under the leadership of Hon. Mathias Mpuuga is structured, growing rapidly, and ready to take on national leadership. We are identifying and grooming competent individuals to take charge of this country’s future,” he said.
The DF Electoral Commission chairperson, Henry Lubowa, also called on both existing members and newcomers to pick up nomination forms before the deadline, emphasizing that all positions are open and merit-based.
“No one has a guaranteed seat in DF,” Lubowa stated. “We believe in fairness and equal opportunity. Anyone with the drive and ability to lead is welcome to contest.”
As the 2026 elections approach, the Democratic Front is positioning itself as a credible alternative for political aspirants who feel marginalized in their current affiliations—offering a platform built on principles, inclusion, and transparency.
