Rebellious NUP’s Sauda Madada gets nominated as independent candidate

As next year’s general polls draw closer National Unity Platform (NUP) diehard Sauda Madada has defied the party and turned up for nomination against the official party bearer Eve Kyaziike Kampala City Woman Lord Councillor at Central Division .

On Wednesday as the Electoral Commission open nominations for local council leaders ,Madada turned up at EC offices in Ntinda to get nominated as an independent candidate
Speaking to Journalists after nomination , Madada who doesn’t fear controversy ,said her decision was out of pressure from grassroots supporters

She insisted that despite defying her party , she remains a loyal supporter of the NUP and party president Bobi Wine.
“NUP is my party. Standing as an independent does not mean that I have left the party,” she said, adding “The pressure to stand as an independent came from the voters themselves and I could no longer resist it.It was too much and I accepted the call to serve,” she said.

Party members like Madada are giving NUP a hard time NUP which is strategizing to strengthen its support in Central Region and also widen its support in other areas like Western region .Some other party members who dissatisfied with the way the cards were distributed have since defected to other opposition parties like Peoples Front for Freedom like Julius Mutebi Nsubuga , the incumbent Kira Municipality mayor .It remains to be seen whether the ongoing nomination of candidates will not leave parties like NUP disintegrated.
