
MUKONO. Police are investigating a case of suspected rash and neglect that caused the death of Rogers Deebat, 60, a Machine operator at Polysack Factory in Kigunga .Mukono district.
According to the deputy Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the deceased was knocked down by a forklift machine on the evening of September 8.
He was on duty at the factory when the incident happened.
‘He was rushed to the factory clinic while in critical condition and later transferred in a community ambulance Reg. No. UB 754 heading to Kibuli Hospital, Kampala,’ Owoyesigyire said.
On the way, when they approached Bweyogerere, his condition deteriorated, and the driver diverted to Gwatiiro Hospital. Unfortunately, medical officials on duty found him breathless, and he was later pronounced dead. The body has since been conveyed to Mulago City mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Owoyesigyire said police have visited the crime scene and are yet to record statements from witnesses and obtain CCTV footage of the incident.
He said they are also actively tracing the suspect who was driving the Forklift at the time of the incident to aid inquiries. We urge the public to avoid speculation as police will actively investigate the cause of death.
He has appealed to factories and workplaces to strengthen safety standards and prevent such tragedies in the future.
