Nomination D-DAY: Bobi Wine dares EC, Police after allowing Museveni processions in Kampala

KAMPALA. Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has accused government and its security apparatus of applying laws regarding public order management selectively after allowing members of ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to jam Kampala City streets moments after party presidential flag bearer got nominated on Tuesday .

After being nominated by the Electoral Commission to seek a seventh elective term in office , Mr Museveni and his supporters converged at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds where held a rally .

But before going to Kololo, thousands of NRM supporters donning the yellow T-Shirts engraved with Mr Museveni portrait carried processions in various streets of Kampala momentarily disrupting traffic in some area ,but police and other security agencies were simply looking on.

Also nominated on Tuesday, Robert Kasibante of Uganda Peasants Party and Joseph Mabirizi of Conservative Party met the Electoral Commission’s requirements for filing their nomination papers, including document verification and payment of the nomination fee, despite earlier difficulties.

Communicating through his X (formally Twitter ) Tuesday , Mr Kyagulanyi claimed that Mr Museveni and the NRM are operating under a system similar to that of apartheid, where different rules are for party loyalists and another set for the rest of citizens.

“The NRM runs our country like an apartheid state with different laws applying to the criminal regime and its agents , and the others applying to the rest of us!” he posted ,adding “ Byabakama ,Mao Police etc have been shouting their voices hoarse saying there won’t be any processions . Any today? The NRM criminals have been everywhere making processions .Hopefully tomorrow [Wednesday] they won’t be brutalising citizens for celebrating our nomination event”

NUP has already indicated that they plan to hold two rallies after Kyagulanyi’s nomination –one at Katwe Market playground in Makindye Division and another at Kaala playground in Nateete ,Rubaga Division .

However, Police have since come out ,saying they will cleared the Kaala playground rally insisting that Katwe being a busy area , is not suitable for such a political activity .
