Jacob Kiplimo makes Uganda proud after winning Chicago Marathon

CHICAGO-USA . Long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo has made Uganda proud after winning the 2025 Chicago Marathon on Sunday.

Kiplimo hit the finishing line after clocking 2:02:23 in only his second marathon appearance.
The half-marathon world record holder showed composure and class, surging ahead after the 30km mark to leave his rivals behind. Kenya’s Amos Kipruto finished second in 2:03:54, while compatriot Alex Masai settled for third in 2:04:37.

Kiplimo, who was runner-up in his marathon debut in London earlier this year, displayed remarkable endurance in Chicago’s cool conditions. Once clear of the chasing pack, he maintained a commanding lead, before crossing the finish line alone.

“Coming here and winning means a lot to me,” Kiplimo said moments after the race. “I’m proud of this result, but I believe I can go even faster.”
In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Hawi Feysa claimed victory in 2:14:56, recording a new personal best and finishing well ahead of her compatriot Megertu Alemu (2:17:18).

Magdalena Shauri of Tanzania completed the podium in 2:18:03. Feysa’s triumph came after a solo run in the closing stages as she shaved over two minutes off her previous record.

The flat Chicago course once again delivered swift times, though no records fell this year. It was in Chicago in 2023 that the late Kelvin Kiptum set the men’s world record of 2:00:35, while Ruth Chepngetich broke the women’s mark a year later in 2:09:56 before her provisional suspension in July.

American Conner Mantz delighted home supporters by breaking Khalid Khannouchi’s 23-year-old U.S. record, finishing fourth in 2:04:43.
In the wheelchair division, Switzerland’s Marcel Hug once again reigned supreme, storming to victory in 1:23:20, while American Susannah Scaroni captured the women’s title in 1:38:14
