Speaker Among survives Mukono accident as car collides with trailer

MUKONO. Speaker of Parliament Anita Among should thank God more after narrowly surviving motor crash along Kampala-Jinja highway in Mukono District .

According to Parliament’s Director of Communications, Chris Obore, the incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m on Saturday when the Speaker was returning to Kampala from Bugweri District, where she had been campaigning for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in her capacity as NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female).

“The trailer driver suddenly swerved towards the Speaker’s car after some of the vehicles in the convoy had already passed,”Obore said in a statement.

“The Speaker’s driver managed to move to the edge of the road to avoid impact.” he added.
Police in Mukono have detained the trailer driver, Ivan Lubega (32), and his co-driver, Amis Waiswa, to assist police with ongoing investigations.

The ill-fated truck was reportedly heading toward Jinja when it crossed into the opposite lane.
No injuries or damage were reported, though eyewitnesses described the situation as “a very close call.”

Traffic authorities have always cautioned motorists to exercise heightened vigilance, particularly on the Kampala–Jinja corridor and Kampala –Masaka highway ,some of Uganda’s most accident-prone highways.
