A delegation of technical officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has carried out inspections of key sports facilities in Uganda as part of ongoing preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The team visited Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, along with training venues including FUFA Kadiba Stadium, Kyambogo University grounds and Makerere University facilities. The inspections are aimed at evaluating stadium readiness, training infrastructure, safety measures and overall compliance with CAF requirements.

Uganda is set to co-host the 2027 tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania, marking a historic first for the East African region. The visiting officials are also expected to assess Hoima City Stadium before concluding their tour.

CAF is seeking to ensure that the competition meets international benchmarks both in match organization and supporting infrastructure.

Meanwhile, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe confirmed on Friday that the 2027 AFCON tournament will proceed as scheduled from June 19 to July 18, 2027. Speaking to journalists in Tanzania, Motsepe noted that consultations are still underway among the three host nations to determine which country will stage the opening match.

He emphasized that beyond hosting matches, the tournament presents an opportunity to nurture and showcase emerging football talent across East Africa.
