A new chapter in Uganda’s retail sector has begun following the official opening of China Mart Supermarket at Oasis Mall in Kampala. The supermarket, located on Level 2 and the 1st Floor of Oasis Mall along Yusuf Lule Road, joins a growing list of Chinese investments tapping into Uganda’s expanding economy and rising consumer market.
The grand opening attracted shoppers, business people, and members of the Chinese community eager to experience what the new franchise describes as a modern shopping lifestyle destination.
China Mart Supermarket enters Uganda with a promise to transform shopping into an experience rather than just a routine activity. The store offers a wide range of products under one roof, including groceries, electronics, furniture, kitchenware, cosmetics, sports equipment, mobile accessories, lighting, bathroom supplies, laundry items, stationery, and computer products.
Speaking during the launch, Public Relations Consultant and Strategist Arnold Katongole described China Mart as one of the region’s major shopping franchises aimed at serving all categories of consumers.
According to Katongole, the supermarket seeks to make shopping more convenient, enjoyable, and accessible to everyone.
“This is not just for a certain class of people. It is for everybody in this country. China Mart is here to make shopping an experience and a new lifestyle for all people,” he said.
He explained that the supermarket currently hosts more than 35 shopping sections fully stocked with a variety of household and consumer products.

To mark the official opening, China Mart announced a massive promotional campaign offering a 20 percent discount on nearly all products from May 20th to May 26th. Katongole noted that additional discounts on furniture and electronic appliances will continue beyond the launch week.
“We have discounts running on 99.9 percent of products during this opening week. Other offers on electronics and furniture will continue even after the launch period,” he added.
The management also emphasized convenience for shoppers, highlighting the availability of ample parking space and easy access through elevators and ramps, while escalators are expected to be completed soon.
Katongole encouraged Ugandans and members of the Chinese community living in Uganda to visit the supermarket, describing it as a “home away from home” for Chinese nationals seeking products from their homeland.

“For friends of the Chinese community and Chinese citizens living in Uganda, your home is now open. Everything you miss from home is now here,” he said.
The opening of China Mart Supermarket reflects Uganda’s growing attractiveness to foreign investors, especially from China, as the country continues to position itself as one of Africa’s emerging consumer and business destinations.
With Kampala’s retail sector rapidly evolving, the arrival of China Mart is expected to increase competition while giving consumers wider choices and a modern shopping experience.
