DTB Bank Uganda Receives Top Mastercard Award for Leading POS Transactions

Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Uganda has been awarded top Honors by Mastercard for recording the highest point-of-sale (POS) transaction volumes in the country, solidifying its position as a digital payments leader in Uganda’s banking industry.

The recognition, presented by Mastercard’s Senior Vice President and East Africa Country Manager, Ali Shehryar, celebrates DTB’s outstanding performance in promoting safe, convenient, and widespread card usage across the country. The award comes as Uganda sees a surge in POS transactions, an industry-wide 39% increase in the first half of 2025, growing from under 7 million to over 9 million transactions.

DTB played a key role in this national growth, with its digital-first strategy and expanded card services widely adopted by both merchants and customers.

Godfrey Sebaana, DTB Uganda’s Managing Director, welcomed the recognition and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to digital innovation.

“We are proud to be recognized for our efforts in advancing secure and seamless payment solutions,” Sebaana said. “DTB remains committed to delivering an unmatched cardholder experience, prioritizing safety, convenience, and continuous innovation.”

Mastercard’s Shehryar echoed this praise, describing DTB as a trailblazer in Uganda’s evolving financial landscape.

“DTB Uganda has truly blown the competition out of the water,” he said. “Their relentless drive to expand card usage and deliver superior merchant services has led to this remarkable milestone. We are proud to partner with DTB in our mission to empower Ugandans through secure, innovative, and inclusive payment solutions.”

This award highlights DTB’s strategic investment in digital banking and financial inclusion, pillars that continue to define its transformation into one of East Africa’s most progressive banking institutions.

With Uganda’s digital economy expanding rapidly, DTB’s leadership in POS transaction growth signals its role not just as a service provider but as a catalyst for digital adoption and cashless payments.
