Faras Uganda has introduced a set of upgrades to its ride-hailing app, strengthening passenger safety, improving payment options, and enhancing the overall commuting experience in Kampala and other urban centres.
One of the most notable additions is a real-time trip tracking tool, which allows passengers to monitor their journeys and share trip details with family or friends. An emergency support button has also been integrated into the app, giving riders quick access to help in case of danger.
According to Faras Uganda General Manager Mudhafar Hamad Kasaija, the changes are designed to build greater trust between drivers and passengers. “We want our users to feel that every ride they take with Faras is secure, transparent, and dependable,” he said.
The company has also rolled out a digital wallet feature, reducing reliance on cash transactions. Marketing Manager Katende Karim explained that the innovation is a response to customer needs. “Digital payments not only cut down the risks associated with cash but also make rides faster and easier to complete,” he noted.
The wallet is compatible with popular mobile money services in Uganda, reflecting the country’s strong shift towards cashless transactions.
The app’s dispatch system has been upgraded with smarter matching algorithms to connect riders with the nearest available drivers. This is expected to cut waiting times significantly, especially during rush hours when demand spikes.
Faras says the improvements go beyond immediate user convenience. By analysing travel data, the company believes it can contribute to urban planning solutions, providing insights into traffic flow and high-demand zones.
Uganda’s ride-hailing market remains highly competitive, with several players vying for customer loyalty. However, Faras hopes that by emphasizing safety, efficiency, and digital convenience, it can carve out a stronger position.
