Mukose Arnold Anthony, Programmes Director at Digitalk TV / Alternative Digitalk and a media and human rights activist, is charged with sending false distress signals and broadcasting fake news. He has asked the court to dismiss the case, citing ambiguity in the charge sheet.
The prosecution failed to disclose the exact area(s) where the alleged offenses are said to have been committed, thereby violating Sections 34 and 35 of the Magistrates Act, Cap. 19.
Even after the prosecution sought leave of court to amend the charge sheet, defense lawyer Kato Tumusiime objected.
He argued that after over 2 months of disclosure of evidence, the issue is no longer an omission but an illegality against the accused, which cannot be cured by an amendment.
Even today, prosecution failed to present any witness(s).
The LDC Court, presided over by Magistrate Ivan Maloba, has adjourned to July 13, 2026, for the ruling on the application.
