The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has donated sports equipment and UGX 10 million to support the upcoming Tooro Kingdom Inter-Clans Football Tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to begin on April 7, 2026, with the final match planned for May 4, 2026, bringing together teams from different clans within the kingdom.
The contribution was delivered on behalf of Gen Kainerugaba by Richard Karemire, the Joint Staff for Formal Education, Sports and Culture, during a ceremony where the items were handed over to Kateeba Divine Francis Atwoki, the kingdom’s Minister for Education, Youth and Sports.
According to Gen Kainerugaba, the donation is meant to support the organisation and smooth running of the football competition. He also praised the leadership and people of Tooro Kingdom for their historical support to the National Resistance Army, which later became the Uganda People’s Defence Forces after the liberation struggle.

He reaffirmed the UPDF’s commitment to initiatives that encourage community development, national unity, and youth participation in sports.
While receiving the donation, Minister Kateeba expressed appreciation to Gen Kainerugaba and the UPDF for the support. He said the gesture demonstrates the army’s commitment to engaging with communities and supporting social initiatives.
Kateeba added that partnerships between cultural institutions and security agencies play an important role in promoting unity, preserving cultural values, and strengthening social harmony through activities such as sports.
The handover ceremony was also attended by Henry Mwijuka, the UPDF Staff Officer in charge of sports.
