KAMPALA .Cabinet has appointed four members to the Surveyors Registration Board.
The appointments were approved during the Monday Cabinet meeting held at State House, Entebbe.
The appointees are, Daniel Okwana, Patricia Alowo Namulembwa and Anthony Mark Kyalirizo and Dr Sophia Nagujja Mugumbu.
The board is established under the Surveyors Registration Act, Cap. 330, and is responsible for registering surveyors and regulating their professional conduct.
Cabinet said an effective board was necessary to maintain professional standards and protect the public interest, particularly as surveying plays a central role in land administration, infrastructure development, physical planning and the management of construction costs.
The appointments come as Uganda continues to grapple with land disputes, overlapping boundaries, fraudulent transactions and disagreements over property valuation.
Surveyors provide technical services used in determining land boundaries, preparing development plans, valuing property and estimating the cost of construction and infrastructure projects.
Weak regulation or professional misconduct can contribute to disputed surveys, inaccurate valuations and costly litigation involving landowners, investors and government agencies.
The newly constituted board will be expected to enforce professional standards, oversee registration and take action against practitioners who breach surveying regulations.
