The management of Gulu University has unveiled its Distance, Electronic, and Lifelong Learning (ODELL) initiative.
The programme , according to Mr James Ojok Onono, the university spokesperson , aims to digitize all academic offerings and expand access to higher education.
Currently, the university runs a single in-house ODELL programme for teachers upgrading at the Kitgum Campus. However, Mr Onono expressed optimism that the expansion of ODELL will bring in over 5,000 new online students in the coming years.
“This shift will revolutionise how students access learning and expand our reach nationally,” he said
Meanwhile, Mr Onono said the university has set November 28, 2025, as the tentative date for their upcoming graduation ceremony.
He said the decision to shift the graduation date—traditionally held in January—was informed by the many political activities expected early next year.
“We want to use this opportunity to permanently shift our graduation to November,” he said.
Mr Onono said the Office of the Academic Registrar is working hard to ensure that students receive their transcripts on the graduation day which has been difficult in past years.
“ I appeal to students, parents, and partners to clear all outstanding balances early to avoid last-minute rushes that typically occur ahead of graduation.
