Lira Regional Referral Hospital Security team working Uganda Police Force on Thursday arrested, Okello Moses from the female surgical ward suspected to defraud shs 200,000 from a patient’s caregiver.
According to statement issued by Lira police, the suspect Impersonated as a Medical Officer working at the Hospital,
According to police Okello hoodwinked the caregiver and solicited for a total of shs500,000 which he says would be used to facilitate a “quick medical procedure”.
“The suspect reportedly insisted that he is given a deposit of shs200,000 before working on the patient and remaining balance paid later. The caregiver reported the matter to our security team who alerted the Police leading to his arrest immediately, after receiving the money, “according to police.
The case has been registered at Lira City Central Police Station under reference 32/26/02/2026, with the case of theft of cash and impersonation.
Lira regional referral hospital officials warned the public to guard against imposters, adding that 5 people under similar circumstances have been arrested this month.
“Our security is on 24-hour alert aided by CCTV surveillance to ensure safety of our dear patients, hospital assets and visitors. Please report to the Hospital authorities such cases from time to time as we make Lira Regional Referral Hospital better for ALL, “stated.
